Our Story
Retriv.ai was born from a frustration we experienced firsthand while building AI-powered applications.
OCR Wasn't Enough
While working on document automation projects for healthcare and financial services clients, we realized that traditional OCR tools were fundamentally broken. They gave us raw text, but no structure, no context, and no way to verify accuracy. Building production systems on top of them required months of custom engineering and fragile template-based rules.
LLMs Change Everything
With the emergence of vision-language models, we saw an opportunity to reimagine document understanding from first principles. Instead of treating documents as pixel grids or text blobs, we could build an agentic system that truly understands layout, context, and semantics — just like a human would.
